Bicycle-messanger - 03/08/03 08:04 PM
Sometimes i worked as bicycle-messanger in Dresden /East Germany. Once i red a post-card of a messanger in Helsingfors (Helsinki /Finland), who cycled there in the winter and one day I listened a radio-transmission of bicycle-messangers in Kabul /Afghanistan. In which cities do you cycle as messanger and how is messanger-cycling there? If i would want to round the world by bicycle, in which cities could i earn the food of this world-rounding-trip as bicycle-messanger?

I used to work as a bike messenger in Freiburg, Germany. Per Velo was and still is the biggest messenger company here. You get payed per hour, depending on how long you have been working for the company between 8 and 9 Euro.
I also worked in London at "Clockwork" (East End) Here you get payed per job depending on how far is it to deliver. You get a minimum wage of 2,50 Pounds for a standard job. Waiting time and return rides are extra. So here it depends on your quickness how much you earn. I earned an average 60 Pounds per day.

Hi,
the biggest problem i see is, that you have to speak german. You have to know at least some streets and have a vague orientation. Per Velo is in the mean ´time a small company and can´t afford it, when there is a messenger that needs twice the time a regular meesenger would need. You are not payed per job but per hour, that is the problem.
You´ll find per velo at
www.per-velo.de or at 0761/75075 ask for Wolfgang Fischer or speak to a dispatcher.
Greetings, Daniel
